Managing your finances in EU
In the last post I talked about basic ways of getting the starter money, now it is time to talk about ingame activities and a bit more about making your pocket grow :)
After you have saved some PED's from sweating/stone and fruit gathering or even by depositing I will point on a few things you should not waste your money on.
It does not really mater what profession you pick (main professions are: miner, hunter and crafter ) you should remember one thing. Don't start on buying high priced equipment at the beginning of your journey in EU - it will be a waste of your money. This is due to the fact that you either have too low skills or even insufficient skills to use higher (and with much bigger monetary value) equipment. At the beginning you should buy equipment only from trade terminal and it will last quite some time for you. In this game all equipment wears out with use (ingame this is called decay) and "Trade Terminal" equipment has lowest decay, with only few exceptions. Now i will tell you a bit about the professions and the tools they use.
Miner - people that choose this profession are going to be gathering basic resources(enmatter's and ore's) in they'r raw form for example iron stone (resources in raw form weight much more then refined resources) iron ore can be refined to iron bars. To start with this profession you will need Finder (detonator), extractor, probes and preferably refiner (although last one isn't needed at the beginning). All equipment can and should be bought at trade terminal.
Hunter - this profession get's they'r income from the loot that killed creatures drop (note that not every creature will have some loot). Sadly in this game it is impossible to kill creatures with your bear hands. So we will be forced to buy hunting equipment. We have some choices here mainly what weapon we will be using. Colonist will be able to choose from:
1. Rifles - long range weapon
2. Handguns (pistols) - low range weapon
3. Longblades (swords, axes) - melee weapon
4. Shortblades (knifes) - melee weapon
5. Power fists - melee weapon
melee and ranged both have they'r good and bad sides:
Ranged - you can kill creatures at a distance and receive less hits from them, but your evade skills will raise slower
Melee - you will get hit more then ranged players, but as a bonus your evades will rise faster.
One side note melee weapons tend to have higher decay rate so they will need to be repaired more often, but while ranged weapons don't decay that fast they do require ammunition. What weapon you choose is pretty much determined by things you like, do you like stand toe to toe with your enemy and smack him with your power fist or maybe you are a sniper type, that kills enemies from the distance (don't forget it is a game and it should be fun thing)
Just like miner hunt should first buy his equipment at trade terminal. One more thing about hunter, in the future you will need armor to kill stronger creatures, just don't make the mistake of buying the armor from trade terminal. Once you have the funds for armor go and buy Pixie armor - it does not cost much and offers good protection for small to medium creatures.
Crafter - this profession is hardest to level and cost lot's of money to begin with, as you will need huge amount of resources. And due to this reason i would not suggest starting players to go this route. At least not till they find a steady income, or can deposit on regular basis.
Note about things you get from mining/hunting or even crafting - every item in entropia universe has a markup value. What this means? It's a value that is added to trade terminal value of the item and is counted in % for stack able items and +amount of PED for non stack able items. For example we have 10 units of Iron Stone (it is stack able item) with trade terminal value of 0.13 PED (markup 106.05 %) and we have 1 RepEdge Battle Axe 1x0 with trade terminal value 7 PED (markup 3.6 PED). If you would sell those items in trade terminal you would get 1,30+7,00=8,30 PED, but if you would choose to sell it to players and would sell it for a full markup price you would get (1,30*1.0605)+(7+3,6)=11,97 (i rounded down the numbers). So try to avoid selling in trade terminal, but sell to players instead - it might take longer but really worth it in the long run.
So this brings us to another way to earn money. Yes you guest it right it is trading - basic buy low sell high thing. What you can do is: buy low quantities of resources from other people (at a lower markup) and then sell the resources in bigger quantities to crafters (for higher markup) - you save they'r time by collecting huge amounts of resources, so they don't have to and you get paid with slightly higher markup for your service.
That is about it for this part.
To be continued ;)
